Dental Implants FAQ

Dental Implants – FAQ

Missing teeth can and should be replaced. This is because each and every gap in your mouth potentially poses problems to your long term dental health. In fact, even one missing tooth can ultimately lead to the loss of additional teeth and ultimately, a permanent change in your facial appearance.

At BPI Dental we have considerable team experience in these procedures and by working closely with an renowned on site dental technician, helps us restore beautiful and long lasting smiles.

Are implants for me?

The oldest patient in whom we have placed implants is 93 and the youngest is 17! Dr Ubhi has placed over 4000 dental implants (as at 2017) over the last 20 years with a success rate of over 97 %.

Are implants always successful?

There is a small possibility that the implant and bone will not bond correctly or that an implant will fail after some period of time. If this happens, the implant can be removed and often replaced by another implant. By doing a comprehensive examination along with x-rays we are able to minimise this risk by reducing the risk factors (gum disease, smoking & poor oral hygiene) prior to treatment.

How long will my implant last?

The first implants were put in place over 40 years ago and are still functioning. To date, there is no time limit on the life expectancy of successful implants. However we must look after these just like natural teeth along with regular dental & hygiene appointments to minimise the chance of complications.

How much will implant treatment cost?

The actual cost of the procedure will depend on the number of implants necessary, the position of implant placement and the type of replacement teeth that will best meet your needs. All in all, dental implants represent a wise investment in overall health and well-being and provide you with substantial long-term benefits. Please note we do not use any cheap brands of dental implants. The following implant brands are used at BPI Dental  –Nobel Biocare, Dentsply, Straumann, Bego , Zimmer Biomet & Southern Implants.    See the price list.

What is the follow up care needed?

Dental implants require the same daily homecare and professional cleaning that your teeth do. We may place you on a maintenance and cleaning schedule to continually monitor the health of your teeth and implant and can make certain that your crowns and bridges are functioning as designed. For most patients this will mean an annual review with the dentist and twice yearly with the dental hygienist. For patients who have had gum disease in the past this can vary from 3-4 monthly appointments with the dental hygienist.
